Smash Courts Alcohol Service & Responsible Consumption Policy
Last Updated: October 2026
Smash Courts is committed to providing a safe, welcoming and enjoyable environment for our members, guests, players, spectators, staff and community. Where alcohol is served, Smash Courts is committed to responsible alcohol service and to complying with all applicable Ontario laws, regulations, liquor licence conditions and responsible-service requirements.
Alcohol service at Smash Courts is a privilege associated with designated licensed areas of the facility. Alcohol is not permitted on pickleball courts or in areas where alcohol consumption is not authorized.
1. Responsible Alcohol Service
Smash Courts takes responsible alcohol service seriously. Alcohol will only be sold and served by authorized staff who meet applicable Ontario training and certification requirements.
Smash Courts staff will monitor alcohol consumption and may refuse service whenever required by law, our liquor licence, this Policy, or where staff reasonably believe that continued service may create a safety concern.
Guests are expected to consume alcohol responsibly and to respect Smash Courts staff and other guests.
2. Legal Drinking Age
Alcohol will not be sold or served to anyone under the legal drinking age in Ontario.
Guests who appear to be under 25 may be asked to provide valid government-issued identification before being served alcohol. Smash Courts may request identification whenever age is uncertain.
Only acceptable, valid identification will be accepted. Expired identification, photocopies or photographs of identification will not be accepted.
A guest who cannot establish that they are legally entitled to purchase or consume alcohol will not be served.
3. Intoxication and Refusal of Service
Smash Courts will not sell or serve alcohol to a person who is or appears to be intoxicated.
Staff may refuse further alcohol service where a guest demonstrates signs of intoxication, impaired judgment, aggressive or disruptive behaviour, or otherwise presents a safety concern.
A refusal of service is a safety measure and is not intended to embarrass or confront the guest. Guests are expected to respect staff decisions regarding alcohol service.
Where appropriate, Smash Courts may also require an intoxicated or disruptive guest to leave the premises or may take other steps necessary to protect the safety of the guest, staff and others.
4. Responsible Consumption
Smash Courts does not encourage excessive or rapid consumption of alcohol.
Guests are encouraged to:
-
Consume alcohol in moderation.
-
Eat food while consuming alcohol.
-
Drink water and non-alcoholic beverages.
-
Pace their consumption.
-
Monitor their own level of impairment.
-
Arrange safe transportation when they have been drinking.
-
Never drink and drive.
Smash Courts may limit or refuse alcohol service where necessary to prevent intoxication or unsafe behaviour.
5. Alcohol and Pickleball
Alcohol consumption can affect judgment, balance, coordination and reaction time. Guests who have consumed alcohol should use particular caution when participating in physical activities.
Smash Courts reserves the right to restrict participation in pickleball, programs, events or other activities where a person's level of impairment creates a reasonable safety concern.
Alcohol is not permitted on pickleball courts unless specifically authorized by Smash Courts and permitted under the applicable liquor licence or event authorization.
Guests must not participate in activities while impaired to a degree that creates a safety risk to themselves or others.
6. Alcohol-Free Areas
Alcohol may only be consumed in areas where alcohol service and consumption are permitted under Smash Courts' liquor licence or applicable event authorization.
Guests must not bring alcohol into unauthorized areas of the facility or move alcoholic beverages outside designated licensed areas.
Smash Courts may establish additional alcohol-free areas or restrictions for particular programs, tournaments, camps, youth activities, events or operational circumstances.
7. Minors
Smash Courts will take reasonable steps to prevent alcohol from being sold, served or supplied to persons who are under the legal drinking age.
Minors may be present in areas of the facility where permitted by law and the conditions of Smash Courts' liquor licence; however, they are not permitted to purchase, possess or consume alcohol contrary to Ontario law.
Adults are responsible for ensuring that alcohol in their possession does not become accessible to minors.
8. Illegal Drugs and Other Substances
Illegal drugs are not permitted at Smash Courts.
Guests must not consume, possess, distribute or provide illegal drugs or other prohibited substances on the premises.
Guests must also not attend or participate in activities while impaired by alcohol, cannabis, illegal drugs or any other substance to a degree that creates a safety concern or interferes with the enjoyment or safety of others.
9. Staff Responsibilities
Smash Courts staff involved in alcohol service are expected to comply with applicable responsible-service requirements and Smash Courts procedures.

Where reasonably necessary, Smash Courts staff may assist an impaired guest in arranging transportation or contacting a friend, family member, taxi, rideshare service or other appropriate transportation option.
Smash Courts will not knowingly encourage or facilitate impaired driving.
11. Aggressive, Disruptive or Unsafe Behaviour
Smash Courts has zero tolerance for violence, threats, harassment, fighting, property damage or other behaviour that places guests, staff or the facility at risk.
Alcohol consumption will not excuse inappropriate or unsafe behaviour.

Smash Courts will comply with applicable Ontario liquor laws and regulations, including the Liquor Licence and Control Act, 2019, applicable regulations, AGCO requirements, the conditions of its liquor licence, and applicable responsible-service requirements.
Where this Policy conflicts with applicable law or a condition of Smash Courts' liquor licence, the applicable law or licence condition will prevail.
